| Kalu Rinpoche the third was born September 17, 1990, so he was only 4 years, when he came to Copenhagen. His father is Lama Gyaltsen Ratak and his mother Kalzang Drolkar. He is a reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche the second, who died in 1989, and he predicted that his reincarnation would be born one year later and that the father would be Gyaltsen - his secretary and nephew - and so it happened! He was recognized by Khentin Tai Situpa. As it is said in the letter of recognition: "The identity of the reincarnation of our illustrious and noble spiritual master, who is both a scholar and an accomplished meditator, the Lord of Refuge Kalu Rinpoche, has become clearly apparent to me through careful examination of manifest signs, personal experience and dreams. These indications correspond to words often said to his close friends and students by Lama Kalu Rinpoche during his previous life, as well as to several comments made as if in jest to his nephew, Karma Gyaltsen. Thus, I am absolutely certain that the boy whose father is Karma Gyaltsen and mother Drolkar and who was born in the Iron Horse year is the reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche." In March 1992 His Holiness the Dalai Lama confirmed this recognition. In July 1992 the new incarnation was invited to visit the Buddhist meditation centers founded by his previous incarnation in France. During this sight-seeing tour his disciples and many other persons who met him, were amazed and moved to faith by his presence. He was invited to Copenhagen by Karmapa Trust in 1994, and the Danish buddhists belonging to the Kagyu lineage were very happy to see him here, because the former Kalu Rinpoche have had a great influence in Denmark as the first Rinpoche to give teachings, when the Tibetan Buddhism was introduced by various Danish hippies bringing it back home from India and Tibet. The first day in Copenhagen he gave a Tjenresig pudja and the second day a Milarepa tsokpudja. Everybody had a good time during the visit going to the Zoo or just playing around as children do! |

In 1994 the present Kalu Rinpoche came to Copenhagen together with his farther and mother. During his visit we recorded 8 houers of video.
