Sikorsky S61 Sea King Helicopter

Start Over

Photos from the nearby park "Fælledparken" September 3 2004.

It is still summer here in Copenhagen 3 days into September with sunshine and 25 degrees, so I went to the park to have a good time eating some food together with some friends. Later we could see a helicopter coming in over the lawn preparing a landing there. Very close to the park we have the National Hospital. It's a huge building with all kinds of departments performing specialized treatments of patients.
Therefore you can see a helicopter coming in occasionally with a patient from other places in Denmark, so that he/she can get the proper treatment on the hospital.
This time it was a little child, who was severly burned by some hot coffee. He was brought in from Aalborg about 350 kilometers away.

The helicopter is a Sikorsky S61 Sea King weighing about 5 tons. It has two engines each with 1350 horse-power, and the rotordiameter is 18,9 meters. This helicopter flew for the first time in 1959 and has been in service here in Denmark for more than 30 years. It is going to be replaced in the near future by a modern helicopter.
