The Forest Botanical Garden

Start Over

The Forest Botanical Garden was founded at 1838 as a study collection for higher education in forestry.
The garden covers an area of 3,5 ha, and between 600 - 700 taxa of woody plants are on display in the garden. Many of the trees and shrubs are more than 100 years old and have survived the extremes of the Danish climate.
The highest tree is a Silver Fir 35 meters high, and there is a Ginkgo Biloba Tree (Templetree). Both trees are planted in 1890. This unique garden with so many old trees and plants are located only abt. 5 kilometers north of Copenhagen close to the beach and forest. I can go there on my bicycle in 20 minutes and enjoy just being there. It's a very quiet place with quite a lot of birds and other animals.
All the photos were taken on April 21. 2004, and you can see, that the Rhododendrons are blooming already now.
The last two photos were taken some years ago, when we had three beehives placed in the garden for abt. 5 years. We had to give it up because of a mite called varroa, which killed most of the bees. On the photo above you can see Gert Nathan in the middle. He was the gardener for several years and took good care of everything. His helper stands to the left and Ea to the right. She took care of the bees.
Now we have to buy our honey!
